It’s been a wonderful journey of almost 3 months of getting my certifications in Laughter Yoga as a Laughter Yoga Leader and then doing an advanced course of dealing with specific targets like School Children, Diabetic patients, Cancer Patients and Senior Citizens, Laughter Yoga 2.0 Season 3. I am proud of my certifications and will take it to places to help make a difference in peoples lives.
It was astonishing to learn that
Laughter Yoga is Scientifically connected with our well being and gives us
numerous amounts of Health benefits. I
have personally benefited from this, and I am happy to start an online Zoom
club to help many others. This Zoom club
is Free of Cost, and everyone is welcome to join.
What inspired me to know more
about Laughter Yoga and how did I learn that something like Laughter Yoga
existed?
In January 2023, my doctor had
given me an ultimatum that if I did not reduce my sugar levels she would put me
on a weekly injection called Ozempic. One
of the side effects that have been proven on rats is Thyroid Cancer and she
assured me that it would be one of a million case. I could not take that chance. This was the time my eyes opened, and I
wanted to do something about my glucose levels.
My A1C was 8.2 in December and that was high for anyone to be on the
road to get a heart attack in the next 10 years. By March I had to get it down to avoid the
Ozempic injection. I went into my
deepest thoughts and prayed hard to find a solution. It was then in my deepest thoughts I heard a
voice saying that “Laughter is the Best medicine” and yes, I had heard this
phrase many a times before. So, I researched
on the internet “Laughter is the Best medicine” and then a whole new world
opened up for me. “Long story
short, my A1C dropped to 0.99 points in 2 months of doing Laughter Yoga along
with my medication and diet, which did not happen with medication and diet and walking before”.
I learned about Henri De
Mondeville. He was one of the physicians and surgeons who contributed great
teachings of medicine, surgery and anatomy at the medieval. During the 1300’s
Henri De Mondeville was the first one who proposed Humour as a therapy post
surgery to enable one to healing faster.
During the early 1900s Norman
Cousins, an American Journalist was diagnosed with a very rare disease called
“Ankylosing Spondylitis”. This is a disease that only one in 500 will
survive. This was told to him by his best
friend and doctor who was treating him.
He was not willing to die young and he defied all odds. He told his doctor to increase his immunity
to the highest and all he did was laugh for 30 minutes every day until the day
he died, 26 years later. That is the
Power of Laughter.
But adults laugh only about 10-15
times a day and that too for 3-5 seconds only.
This does not give you the health benefits unless it is sustained
laughter for 10-15 minutes at a time.
Laughter Yoga teaches how to laugh unconditionally, voluntarily and not
depend on jokes and funny stories because it lasts only for a few seconds and
is not sustained.
In 1995, Dr. Madan Kataria a
medical doctor from India started this unique concept of Laughter Yoga in a
small park in Mumbai with his wife Madam Madhuri Kataria and 3 other friends.
He initiated laughter as an exercise with deep breathing. He has brought about
an awareness that our own body has a pharmacy to help heal our illness and that
if we laugh everyday for 10-15 minutes, we will not fall sick easily and if
anyone has got critical illness Laughter Yoga will be a great therapy in
helping heal faster. He has a
full-fledged University India teaching Laugher Yoga and its Scientific Health
benefits with back up research and proving’s.
Today there are 1000’s of Laugher Yoga Clubs all over the world and one
must be certified to be able to teach Laughter Yoga and open a Laugher Yoga
club. This is how “Joy’s Laughter Club”
came into existence to make a difference in peoples lives. I am the only Laughter
