Devine Gifts That Were Never Opened

The author often fears that one day when she visits the realms of Heaven, God will open up the doors to a huge mansion filled with gifts that were never opened.  Gifts that were overlooked and ignored and some kept aside to open it some day but was never opened. This is a great eye opener to all of us to wake up before we sleep forever.

There is always a thought that is both inspiring and unsettling: what if God has already placed extraordinary gifts within us, yet many remain unopened?

We often think of blessings as things we receive, opportunities, relationships, material provision. But some of the most profound gifts are not handed to us externally. They are embedded within us from the very beginning: talents, ideas, courage, creativity, leadership, compassion, and purpose.

The Gifts Already Given

From a spiritual perspective, God is not withholding greatness from us. Instead, He entrusts us with potential,  power and waiting to be developed.

These gifts may look like:

  • A natural ability to inspire others
  • A creative talent that brings beauty into the world
  • A vision for something bigger than yourself
  • The strength to overcome and lead others through challenges
  • A calling that keeps returning to your heart

Yet, having a gift is not the same as using it.

The Tragedy of Untapped Potential

Imagine reaching Heaven and being shown a glimpse of what could have been your greatest achievements, something that you did not even imagine that you could have achieved back on earth:

  • The impact you were capable of making on thousands of people
  • The lives you were meant to touch and transform
  • The ideas you never pursued that would have made a difference in the lives of many
  • The purpose you hesitated to step into

Not as a punishment, but as a revelation.

You see the fullness of what God placed inside you, and for a moment, you are astonished:

“All of this was within me?”

And the answer is yes.

But along the way, something interfered.

What Holds Us Back

The barriers are rarely external. More often, they are internal narratives that quietly shape our decisions:

  • Fear: “What if I fail?”
  • Self-doubt: “I’m not good enough.”
  • Comfort: “Maybe later, this is fine for now.”
  • Conditioning – Voices and experiences that made you question your worth or ability

These thoughts can become so familiar that they feel like truth. But they are not aligned with the gifts God placed within you.

Heaven’s Revelation

The idea of seeing unused gifts in Heaven is not meant to create guilt, it’s meant to awaken urgency.

Because the real message is this:

You don’t have to wait until Heaven to discover what God has given you.

You can begin now.

Living Into Your Gifts

Stepping into your God-given potential doesn’t require perfection—it requires movement.

Start with:

  • Awareness: What comes naturally to you? What do others often notice in you?
  • Courage: Take small steps even when you feel uncertain
  • Discipline: Develop your gifts consistently, not occasionally
  • Faith: Trust that what’s been placed in you has purpose

Growth often feels uncomfortable. That’s not a sign to stop, it’s a sign you’re stretching into something greater.

A Different Ending

Now imagine a different moment.

Instead of discovering unused gifts in Heaven, you arrive having poured them out—fully, boldly, faithfully.

  • You tried, even when it was hard
  • You showed up, even when you doubted
  • You used what you were given, even imperfectly

And instead of astonishment at what you missed, there is peace in knowing:

You lived out what was placed within you.

Final Reflection

God’s gifts are not hidden from you; they are within you. The real question is not whether you have been given something meaningful.  It’s whether you are willing to uncover it, develop it, and use it.  I often wonder what are the gifts that I have not yet opened that God has bestowed upon me. Am I going to be ashamed of myself for not opening those gifts when I get to my destination up in Heaven when it is revealed to me or will I be patted on my back saying you did well with the gifts bestowed upon you.

Because the greatest tragedy is not lacking gifts, it is leaving them unopened and the richest place you see where the gifts are unopened is the graveyard where peoples ideas, dreams and capabilities are buried along with their mortal bodies.

A gift that was unopened
